Blog Post #1

Have you come across something we discussed in class out there in the "real world" or another class? Describe the connection you made.
Last week in the CSE class that I am taking at MSU we started talking about interval notation.  We used it for a different reason than it is used for in functions.  We used it as a method to find substitutions and values for variables when finding the complete size of a bitmap, graphics interchange format, or portable network graphics image.  The main similarity that I found is that in both applications interval notation is used to represent some type of value, whether it be a range of values or a single value.  As some people use the skills from CSE courses in their careers, it seems as though interval notation is absolutely used outside of math classrooms.

Blog Post 9/29

So far this tri in pre calc has been pretty good. I started inverted on an iffy note, but once I went through the some practice I'm pretty solid on it so far.

Describe a real made-up dream or nightmare.

One of my biggest dreams was to visit the USA. I've always wanted to see how the life is like, how the school is like and if everything I saw in the films it's true.
So when I found out that I could have the occasion to stay for a year in the USA and attend a school like an american teenager, I knew that it was something I had to do.
August 26th 2015, my dream becomes true. I'm in New York City!
On 29th of August I finally met my host family, I will stay in Mason for the entire scholar year and I will attend the Mason High School. I will finally live my dream to attend an american high school and being a cheerleader.

3. A reflective comment on your progress in the course.

Beginning precalc with interval notation and domain and range had me a little worried at first, but now that we're getting into inverse functions I feel like I have a better understanding about what were doing!
What would you do if 300 mice had just gotten out of their cages in a pet shop where you worked?

I would create a small army of my new mice friends and I would soon take them to a uniform store to be properly fitted for their new stylish outfits. If the uniform store doesn't have their size we will look on Etsy because I am sure that a creative crafter has made some before. We will then proceed to the nearest Kroger to organize the fresh cheeses (without eating any of course because my mice know self discipline!!) and then we will roam the streets of Michigan creating a better world for mice, humans, and the monsters that live under small childrens' beds.

A reflective comment on your progress in the course.

My biggest improvement in this course so far is writing in notation. I did not know anything about how to or had seen it before. Now i feel fully confident in writing it now.

Break a Leg

An event that changed my life forever was homecoming dance of junior year.
It all started with me seeing that a girl I fancied was there, so I wanted to dance with her. but the problem is, I didn't know how to dance. and so I went to a friend and asked him to teach me how to dance. he said,
"spin on your toes like this"
[insert flawless spinning here]
"that's the grippy part of my shoe but okay"
[insert destroying knee here]
"AAARRRRHG F***"
[insert punching the floor here]
the next memory is waking up across the gym with about 11 people around me and flashing lights in my eyes.
they asked me if I needed to go the hospital, I should have said yes.
Would have saved time. And now I can't play sports on a team and have a scar that looks like a wrinkly wormy.
Moral of the story: Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.

1. Design some gadget, machine, building, or other creation that might enrich the future. What does it look like? What does it do? How does it function? In what ways might it benefit people?

I would create an electric car that charges itself via its own power. There will be the normal alternator for interior gadget use and there will be a significantly larger one on the drive shaft. It will also have something similar to kers (kinetic energy recovery system) in f1 that generates power from braking and stores it as use able electricity for the driver.  It will benefit people by having an electric car that doesn't die after a pathetic amount of miles and, of course, save the gas for us gearheads.

Which character from a book would you most like to meet and why?

If I had to choose one character to meet from a book, I'd want to meet Mo from Inkheart, by Cornelia Funke.  Mo has the ability to bring creatures and objects from books to life, just by reading the words.  If I turned him into my prisoner, I'd be able to meet as many other book characters as I'd like by having him read about them.  This talent isn't limited to just  fiction or fantasy books.  If I wanted to meet Albert Einstein, for example, I'd have Mo read a book about him.  It's not an exact science, so I'd have to be careful.  Whenever someone comes out of a book, another person has to replace them and go into the story they came out of.  To make up for keeping Mo prisoner, I'd lock him in a room with convicts and thieves.   That way, they could go into the story and would no longer trouble us with their evil ways.

4. Describe a real or made-up dream or nightmare.
I have a really lame recurring nightmare that happens sometimes during my track and cross country seasons.  Basically, the nightmare starts with me standing in a starting line for a race.  Once the race starts, everybody else starts to run, except for me who is just standing there.  No matter what I can't ever get my legs to run or move in my dreams so instead, I have to grab on to different runners and get dragged around the course.  As you can imagine, I don't do very good in the race.  Pretty scary stuff right there.

Five years from now...

I'll be in college studying business management/finance and hopefully by then I'll learn to be content with who I am as a person. Basically, I hope to be happier in terms of my personality and my body. Also, I won't be afraid to be who I am because it honestly doesn't matter, and it shouldn't matter.  In addition to being more positive, I also hope that by then I would've traveled to Spain, France, Mexico, Los Angeles, Hawaii, and any of the carribean islands. This vision for my future self might seem a bit basic but it's all I ever really want to see from myself in 5 years. Happy, successful, and a world traveler. It's a pretty solid combination. :-)

4. Describe a real made-up dream or nightmare.

I once had a dream where I was walking through a crop field and I tripped on a plant.  A bandit cat with a bandana and an eye patch jumped out at me and slashed my thigh with a machete.  When I woke up I thought I was going to have a giant slash on my thigh but then I realized it was a dream and cats can't actually hold machetes.

If and when I raise children, I'll never...

I will never tell my kids that someone can not change. Some people believe that when you get older you get stubborn and can't change. I believe that change is possible in everyone no matter the circumstances.

1st Blog Post - The Best Day of my Life

Write out the best or the worst day of your life.

It is very hard to narrow one day down to the best day of my life. When I think of the best days of my life, a few things come to mind. Some of those things are, the day I performed at a Pistons game with my dance studio, either time I met Tyler Oakley, and when I attended a Justin Bieber concert. Those were probably the best days of my life, but I'm going to write about the first one, performing at the Pistons game. At my dance studio, Karyn's Dance Place, I am part of Company, where we do all different types of dance and many different performances. Almost every year, we perform pre-game at a Pistons game. Last year we all got warm up for the first time, and danced to the song Burning Up. We practiced for months ahead of time, even practicing at the Police Station in their gym. I was so nervous when I was waiting to go onto the basketball court, but once I stepped on that stage, I got a rush of adrenaline, and it was amazing. One of the best feelings is being on stage, performing, and doing what I love to do - dance. Performing pre-game at a Pistons Basketball game was one of the best days of my life.

20.  What would you do if 300 mice had just gotten out of their cages in a pet shop where you worked?

First I would totally cry.....then probably call a mice whisperer to tame the mice. After the mice have become chill I would buy all of them and name them. My dog Henry and I would then open up mice world, which is basically a sea world for mice.

Hero

15.  Describe someone who is a hero to you and explain why.
Law Enforcement Officers because they are the Sheep dog that protect the sheep form the wolves. They put their lives on the line every day to protect everyone including the ones that hate on them everyday. #BlueLivesMatter

4. Describe a real made-up dream or nightmare.

One time i had a dream I was chasing a ball around in my basement then woke up in my basement.

Sam Meets a Character

18.  Which character from a book would you most like to meet and why?

I would want to meet Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings. He went through an adventure where he constantly had to push forward, be optimistic, and be the light for Frodo. Even on the edge of death, he still persevered and was optimistic. I want to learn to better myself when it comes to being optimistic more than pessimistic. I think Samwise would be able to help me find the bright things in life.
What would you do if 300 mice had just gotten out of their cages in a pet shop where you worked?
If 300 mice got out, I would go out and buy 301 mice traps..Because we've been having mice problems

I once dreamt that I was a bowl of macaroni n cheese and I tried to run away because people were trying to eat me but I could not move cause I was a bowl of macaroni n cheese.

5 years from now

11. Five years from now, I will be...  going to college at NYU. I went to New York last year and we visited the campus and I loved it. I don't know what I'll be studying to be but since I was little I've told people I want to be a Lawyer. So I will be studying Law at NYU.

5 Years From Now...

5 years from now I see myself in California, studying at college to be an aerospace or a civil engineer.
1.  I would invent a wormhole generator and some sort of ship that would be able to withstand the travel through space and time.  It would probably be bulky because it is a Mk 1.  I don't know exactly how it would function because if it did then I would already be building it.  But it would generate a wormhole to (hopefully) a specific position in the galaxy.  This could benefit the human race by allowing us to leave our world and expand the human empire.  Colonizing other planets could boost science and create millions of jobs.  It would also solve overpopulation and food shortages given enough time.  However, this technology would inevitably lead towards wars that fight over planets and certain resource rich places.  But, that happens anyways here on Earth, so no big deal.

Raising children

If and when I raise children, I'll raise them as good as possible. I dare them to to talk back because they will catch the belt on the butt. I don't believe in beating children but some good authority is what the youth needs now days. I'll support anything they do and help them with their problems. If they make mistakes, I'll forgive them but like I said before they will catch the belt. Overall I will love them but at the same time show them tough love because that is what people need sometimes.
 7. Finish this thought: if I could change one thing about myself (if you can't think of anything, you might want to consider telling how you got to be perfect!)

So basically there's nothing I would change about me because I'm just as perfect as they come. Five milliseconds after I emerged from my mother's womb, everyone was in tears because I was the most beautiful thing anyone has ever seen ever. Everyone was calling everyone they knew to tell them about the miracle that happened in 1999.  Like everyone else, I have grown and have gotten older. Everyday I become more stunning and y'all be jealous. I have learned a great many of things during my lifetime, like how amazing I am at everything imaginable. All my life I have heard "Oh Veronica, if only I were as amazing as you!" and I'm just here like "yeah but you aren't sooo....". Anyway, this is my little story of how amazing I am in every way possible.

PS I'm not really this conceded at all.

If I could invent a new kind of food it would be a combination of a taco and a sucker.  Therefore, I would call it a Tucker.  The overall form of the food would look like a giant taco, but it would have the feel of a giant sucker.  When somebody licks or bites into a Tucker, it will taste like a taco, and fill the person up like they actually ate a real taco.  I would sell my invention world-wide, and profit greatly.
17.  Imagine yourself in a different century and describe an average day in your life.

I would go back and live in the 1960s. An average day for me would be to wake up and make breakfast for my husband, Jim and my three kids, Blake, Spencer, and Chase. I would make there lunches and help get them dressed. Then i would load my kids into the car and my husband would take them to school and he would go off to work with NASA. I would then get into my awesome car and drive to work. Where i would work as a scientist where i would invent to cure for cancer. Then i would go pick up my kids and take them to there sports. Blake plays soccer, Spencer does gymnastics, and Chase does football. Jim would come home to and i would have dinner prepared. We would sit around the table and talk about our day and then i would get the kids washed up and then put them to bed.

15.  Describe someone who is a hero to you and explain why.
Rory McIlroy has been my favorite PGA Tour golfer for several years now.  However, he is actually more than just that to me.  In 2011, Rory embarked on a four day journey towards the Green Jacket at the Masters Tournament, the first PGA Tour Major of the year.  At this point, Rory was not number one in the world rankings as he is today.  He had never won a Major, compared to the four he has today.  Through three rounds he had several strokes on the field.  Through the front nine of the fourth (final) round, Rory held a comfortable lead.  In his own words, he blew up on the back nine.  He surrendered the lead in the final nine of the total seventy-two holes.  His world could have crumbled around him.  He threw away what would have been the biggest victory to that point in his young career.  The twenty-one year old did not dwell over the defeat.  In fact, he used it as fuel to never allow such a defeat to happen again.  At he very next major of the year, the United States Open Championship, went to the now twenty-two year old.  Rory came back form the worst back nine of his career at Augusta National to win at Kiawah Island.  Today, Rory has a United States Championship, a PGA Championship, and two Open Championship victories.  He used his defeat at the Masters Tournament to propel him to four Major victories.  The worst loss in his career started him on the journey to becoming the number one ranked golfer in the world.
11. Five years from now, I will be...

In 5 years I plan to be on the US Olympic team in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics. I would be competing in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. It would also be a goal to medal, even though just going would be impressive.

Three goals i have set for myself

1. Finish my junior year with all A's.
2. Go to college and become a nurse anesthetist.
3. Get a job.
